Join Makers Series presenter Mari Black for an evening of fiddle music from around the world in the intimate setting of a small house concert.
Multistyle violinist & champion fiddler Mari Black’s virtuosic fiddling, sparkling stage presence, and commitment to bringing people together through music have made her a favorite with audiences across the country and around the world. A master of diverse musical styles and winner of multiple major international competitions, Mari sweeps her audiences away on a spirited musical adventure featuring dance music from around the globe: Celtic, American, and Canadian fiddling, jazz, tango, klezmer, folk, and original works.
Mari will be accompanied by DC-based guitarist Zan McLeod, who’s been described as “something of a legend” in celtic circles, recording on nearly 150 CDs (including Grammy-winning and -nominated ones) and several several film soundtracks. Zan brings a distinctive flair as well as stunning technical skill to the stage, is a respected and experienced workshop leader and instructor, and runs his own boutique recording studio.
And, to emphasize our weekend’s focus on discipleship in the arts, John Turner—Mari’s mentor, 10-time National Scottish Fiddling Champion, and the third generation in a family of traditional fiddlers—will be joining her for a few tunes, as well.
This house concert is limited to only 50 seats, so email or call Valerie Holland at 804.282.4645 to reserve a seat and receive full details on the concert location in Manchester, just south of downtown RVA. Light snacks and drinks are included with the suggested $20 donation that goes to support Mari, her art, and her guitarist.
