Come to out to this (free!) lunch to catch up with Jonathan and Mika Hicks with Pioneers.
Sunday, January 19
12:30 p.m. | Room 101
Come to this (free!) lunch on Sunday, Jan. 19 in Room 101 to hear an update on the Hicks’ ministry.
As a family of four, we are still relatively new to Japan, having lived here for two-and-a-half years. The Japanese language and culture take quite a while to master (for Jonathan), so our ministry is still developing and changing. This year (2019), we are working with the Pioneers Japan Launch servant team, serving other new missionaries as they learn about Japanese language, culture, and ministry. We are also serving at a local Japanese church, helping with the children's ministry, in which our 6 and 7-year-old sons, Abraham and Ezra, also participate. God has given Mika, who is a native Japanese, opportunities to lead a monthly women's Bible study, as well as to help invest in the discipleship and evangelism of various Japanese women. By God's grace, Jonathan is now in the upper-intermediate level of Japanese learning, is learning to have longer conversations in Japanese, including sharing his testimony and the gospel, and is studying the Bible in Japanese. This year we are also praying towards a clearer vision for church planting. Regarding the "with-whom/what-kind/when/where/how" of church planting in Japan, we are studying various resources, having conversations with various pastors and missionaries, and Jonathan has attended two Japan church-planting conferences.
No RSVP is necessary to attend the luncheon.
