Most of us are preparing for our lavish feasts over Thanksgiving and will enjoy its leftovers for days after. Our abundance contrasts starkly with much of the rest of the world. There are still 795 million people who are chronically malnourished. One in nine go to bed hungry and 45% of child deaths are attributed to poor nutrition. Now in our 5th year participating in Stop Hunger Now, we are making an impact. Those who are malnourished has gone down, 216 million less than 20 years ago.
Join us in continuing to make a dent in this global problem by participating in Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event January 30, 2016. Right now you can contribute toward the cost of providing the 100,000 meals we will package that day using the alternative gift cards for Christmas to donate in honor of a friend or someone in your family. Just donate — either online or in-person — and pick a card(s) up in the Fellowship Hall or Steeple Corridor on Sundays leading up to Christmas. Then, you can give the card to your family member or loved one on Christmas.
Registration is open for you to help package meals on Saturday, January 30. It is a fun event for us as a congregation, seeing each other look strange in hair nets and watching our industrious children have fun while they serve. Most of all it is a way we contribute to the flourishing of our world in a way that makes a difference.
